Group vs. Fan

Fan Page: It is a way to spread the word about you and your business or organization. There is no limit on how many fans a page can have. You can advertise products or events that you may want to get out to your fans, but you don't have control over who joins your page except for age and location. This page also makes it easier to keep track of the success of their pages.

Group Page: Group pages are used for people of the same organization to collaborate on the same projects. It allows the administrator to have complete control over who is in the group or not. There is a 5,000 cap on the amount of members. These pages are not used for advertisement.

Best & Worst: The fan page is great tool to use for socializing and advertising. It will allow for your fans to feel like they can talk to you on a personal level. They let you manage your brand better. The group page is better for a group of like minded people to collaborate and solve problems.

Both of these pages  have two very different purposes, so it is important to know what you want to accomplish for your brand or organization before you create a page.
